Science

MySoil was developed out of the need for a more accurate and reliable soil test that simplifies the complexity of soil-nutrient interactions. Information is delivered in the most valuable and meaningful way so that agronomists, growers & DIY’ers alike can make responsible and beneficial fertilizer applications.

Methodology

The soil test, originally developed by Dr. Earl Skogley at Montana State University, begins with the use of Ion-Exchange Resins specially blended and encapsulated to simulate plant-root uptake and soil nutrient release interactions. When placed in soil, the resin capsule adsorbs nutrients, only if they are in forms and amounts available for plant uptake. Similar to living plant roots, these resin capsules release Hydrogen (H+) and Hydroxide (OH-) ions in exchange for available nutrients in your unique soil!

  • pH
  • Nitrogen (N)
  • (Nitrate & Ammonium)
  • Phosphorus (P)
  • Potassium (K)
  • Calcium (Ca)
  • Magnesium (Mg)
  • Sulfur (S)
  • Iron (Fe)
  • Manganese (Mn)
  • Boron (B)
  • Copper (Cu)
  • Zinc (Zn)
  • Sodium (Na)

Soils often contain an abundance of nutrients that may or may not be in available forms to plants during the time they are growing. Conventional soil analysis methods measure nutrient levels by drying and grinding your soil and extracting nutrients with different chemicals. This is still a "guess" with regards to what chemical extraction may best represent the available nutrient levels in your soil. MySoil uses the customer's field-moist soil to adsorb available nutrients without using chemicals that can over or underestimate nutrient levels and soil release. The MySoil Analysis Method does not require your soil to be dried and ground, two processes that change the physical and chemical characteristics of the natural soil.

Recommendations

Why Are MySoil’s Recommendations So Effective?

It’s not the total amount of nutrient in the soil, but that soil’s ability to release those nutrients in forms and amounts that match plant uptake demands at critical growth stages.

Nutrient Uptake Demand

Lbs/Ac/Day

MySoil provides a unique and one of a kind measurement of soil nutrient release that is critical to its effectiveness and reliability. MySoil measures pounds per acre per day (Lbs/Ac/Day) nutrient release from your soil and recommends products and rates that regenerates your soil to match these demands (Lbs/Ac/Day). These demands are required by specific crops to maximize nutrient density, quality, and yield. Lbs/Ac/Day crop uptake demands are derived from published resources for a number of crops and nutrients.

Sustainability

MySoil promotes and guides responsible fertilizer application practices through its soil testing methodology and easy-to-use customer interface. A variety of environmental issues stem from improper fertilizer usage. Now, homeowners and DIY enthusiasts have the proper tools to help manage sustainable actions. MySoil is leading the way for successful growing practices, while simultaneously reducing or eliminating the off-target movement of fertilizers.

"The goal of MySoil is to improve soil and plant health, producing healthy food and green landscapes, while simultaneously reducing or eliminating environmentally sensitive nutrients from waterways"
